Sunday 12th August sail, 1pm launch

Sunday sail to Balmerino beach with barbecue, please bring your own food and drink, we’ll provide coal and barbeque.

We are aiming for a record number of wayfarers on the water –
Will yours be the oldest or newest? With most or fewest passengers?

Furthest travelled? Most fun?

We’ll be accompanied by a piper while going through the bridges –
don’t miss this special event, rig your boat and enjoy a good sail!

The Wayfarer

The Wayfarer dinghy was designed by Ian Proctor in 1957 and in the subsequent 60+ years has acquired an unrivaled reputation as a tough and seaworthy cruising dinghy, yet at the same time being responsive and rewarding to race. The UK Wayfarer Association was founded a year later, in 1958.

It is an ideal boat for beginners as well as veterans and it has been successfully sailed across the North Sea and to Iceland.

Dundee Sailing Club boasts one of the largest Wayfarers fleet in Scotland (and probably the UK) with 20 privately owned and 9 club boats.

Useful information

We do have space in our boat yard to temporarily park a good number of boats, if you plan on bringing along your wayfarer please let us know (email: dundee.ac@googlemail.com, facebook: fb.com/DundeeSailingClub or the Contact Us page) so we can help you get it into the yard. The yard is locked and protected by security cameras.

Unfortunately, there is no ideal facility for camping but the clubhouse can serve as a bunkhouse for the night with cooking facilities, showers and toilet. There are a number of B&Bs nearby as well.

Parking is available along Ogilvie Road as shown in the picture. Alternatively you can park along Douglas Terrace (a bit further to the East).
