Newburgh Sail
The weather gods smiled for the weekend Newburgh camping trip, with 7 wayfarers heading off on the incoming tide for a beach upriver near the ruins of Ballinbreich Castle, east of Newburgh. A gentle breeze ensured a safe run of 2 hours, a soft nudge to a bridge pylon aside, followed by a BBQ on the beach, before 2 boats faced a tiring return trip into the wind. The remainder enjoyed a local sail in the strengthening breeze or lazing in the warm sunshine (or skinny dipping in the Tay?) before 5 members were ferried to Newburgh to head for a comfy bed. 6 hard core campers remained, taking in a walk to explore the impressive ruins of the Castle then sipped a few drinks around the campfire into the night.
An early start the next morning to catch the outgoing tide, with a full Scottish breakfast off the BBQ and a few percolated coffees restoring energy, the hardy campers were joined by the Sunday return trip sailors ferried from Newburgh. More glorious sunshine, though little wind, saw a slow start, with seals popping up around the boats, with a good following breeze kicking in before the railway bridge to give us a flying return to the club. An enjoyable weekend…
