Perth weekend August 2014
The gloomy Saturday forecast came true with overcast and drizzle but plenty of brave souls showed up to allow 5 wayfarers, the keel boat and safety boat to head up river. An immediate squall forced the wayfarers to the Fife coast to reef before we’d even reached the road bridge, but a good tail wind thereafter, punctuated with rain showers, allowed a steady passage to Perth SC.
A relaxing evening was had, joined by other members who’d driven across, with BBQ, drinks, music, a few rain showers and watching a Perth SC race on the river. Most slept in tents with a few enjoying the snoring in the clubhouse.
A glorious sunrise heralded a day of much nicer weather, though a head wind this time, with everyone setting off tacking downriver. A slight calamity at Newburgh when, distracted by swapping crews onto the keel boat, both the keel and safety boats drifted off channel and caught on muddy sandbanks. 6 hours of waiting ensued for a few while the tide fell and rose again. No damage however apart from some dented pride, with the boats sitting prettily in green meadows!
Thanks to Newburgh SC for their kind hospitality.
